Milica Opacic has served as Honorary Consul of the Republic of Serbia in the Province of Alberta since 2017. In this capacity, she works to strengthen relations between Serbia and Alberta, promote Serbian culture and heritage, and support the Serbian-Canadian community throughout the province.

Ms. Opacic works closely with the Embassy of the Republic of Serbia in Canada and engages with representatives of municipal, provincial and federal governments, members of the diplomatic and consular community, cultural organizations, business representatives and community leaders. She has been actively involved in initiatives that strengthen relationships between Serbian community organizations and Canadian public institutions and promote greater awareness of Serbia and Serbian heritage in Alberta.

Her professional background spans international organizations, government and the corporate sector. Earlier in her career, Ms. Opacic served as an Interpreter and Liaison with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and as a Resettlement Counsellor with Citizenship and Immigration Canada. She subsequently built an extensive corporate career in Calgary, holding senior administrative, executive and project-support positions with major organizations including TransAlta Corporation, Agrium/Nutrien, Trans Mountain and TC Energy.

Her professional experience encompasses executive and project support, stakeholder coordination, corporate operations, finance and procurement administration, and supporting senior leadership in complex organizational environments.

Ms. Opacic holds a Bachelor of Economics from the University of Tourism and Foreign Trade in Dubrovnik, Croatia. Her professional development includes studies in diplomacy and protocol, interpretation and translation, and business technology. She is an Alberta Notary Public and a Certified Translator and longtime member of the Association of Translators and Interpreters of Alberta (ATIA).

Community service has been an important part of Ms. Opacic’s work for many years. She has been actively involved in Serbian-Canadian cultural, humanitarian and community initiatives and has worked to strengthen cooperation among Serbian organizations and their relationships with Canadian institutions.

Her community engagement includes the Serbian Festival Society of Calgary, which organizes the annual Serbian Festival and promotes Serbian culture and heritage in Alberta. Through her consular and community work, she continues to support cultural, diplomatic, humanitarian and community initiatives connecting Serbia, Alberta and the Serbian diaspora.

Ms. Opacic is fluent in English and Serbian/Croatian and has working knowledge of German.
